"Training the Trusted Canine"

Canine Evaluation

These evaluations are conducted as required throughout the year. It is not a matter of whether a dog is smart or dumb; we are assessing whether the dog has the appropriate drives needed in order to be trained for the job at hand.

This evaluation demonstrates to dog owners inherent aptitude of the dog or pup, what type of reward system will be most effective with that particular dog, and how to anticipate and be prepared for problems that may arise during training.

The drive evaluation is a series of tests concerning the dog's inherent drives. Pack, Prey, Play, Hunt drives, and Nerve strength, all play an important role when training a dog for search work, or other types of work.

  • Tests conducted on dog litters of 6-7 weeks of age - 0.5 hr per individual test
  • Individual Puppies of 7 weeks and up to 4 months - up to 1 hour per test
  • Individual Puppies of 5 months and up to 1 year - up to 1.5 hours per test
  • Individual Dogs over 1 year - up to 2 hours per test
