Obedience Courses

The following four levels of regular obedience courses are held at Open Spaces Doggie Day-Care in St. Albert, Alberta

Building Blocks Obedience (Level 1)

Puppy course is designed for nine week to four month old puppies. A five week fun obedience course for puppies.

  • Quiet down
  • Come when called
  • Sit
  • Down
  • 'Off' command
  • Safety wait
  • Walking on leash

    Cornerstone Obedience (Level 2)

    An obedience course for dogs four months and up. Six weeks of training for handlers and their dogs.

  • Sit on command
  • Sit stay
  • Sit for examination
  • Heel on leash with automatic sit
  • Down on command
  • Down stay
  • Recall

    Milestone Obedience (Level 3)

    An advance obedience course for dogs six months and up who have already received a basic obedience class. Six-weeks of obedience training for handlers and their dogs.

  • Heel off leash with automatic sit
  • Out of sight recall with distractions
  • Out of sight down stay for 3 minutes
  • Wait in motion

    Benchmark Obedience (Level 4)

    An advanced obedience course for dogs and handlers that have already received the Milestone or equivalent training course. Six weeks of demanding obedience training for further progression in producing reliable dogs for the real world. This course will be held in and out-doors, depending on weather.
    (A critique examination is given at the conclusion of this six week course.)

    Search Dog Obedience Course

    Course Cost: $130.00 Contact Precision Search Dog® to register.

    This course reflects what a search dog handler needs with their dog is in the field. Control for the working dog is essential as it could be is a matter of life or death. All search dog obedience training is held outdoorsexcept under extreme weather conditions. An obedience evaluation is conducted at the conclusion of the course. Certificates are issued with a pass/fail grade.

    Some of the exercises needed for search dogs are:

  • Emergency stop
  • On/Off line control
  • Out of sight recall
  • Out of sight stay
  • Retrieve (optional)
  • Class size of 1-8 participants
